Studland naturist beach is located on Knoll beach in Dorset, close to Bournemouth and Poole. It stretches across 900 metres of stunning coastline. The beach comprises of a designated area which is marked with green signposts and blue signs.
Studland naturist beach is owned by the National Trust and offers a rich history dating back to the 1920s when it was first set up. It has now become a special part of the landscape of the Studland peninsular. Naturists are welcome at around 1km of the beach where clothing is optional.
The national trust has received backlash over the last 10 years in relation to the management of Studland naturist beach. In 1995, users of the beach formed Studland United Nudists to protest over changes to the area by the National trust. The trust set up a specific area of the beach for naturists and a petition was signed by 1,200 naturists for restrictions to the area to be lifted. In 2005, an action group was introduced which is made up of the national trust, emergency services, naturist organisations and local businesses to discuss any problems related to the beach. Due to many requests for the beach to have more space, the naturist area was expanded more than 50 metres in April 2013.
In England and Wales, naturism in certain places is legal but inappropriate and offensive behaviour could be an offence. Therefore, Studland beach created a beach code so people can enjoy a relaxing day. The code includes a list of rules to follow at the beach including respecting people’s privacy, safeguarding your valuables, no sexual activity welcome, avoiding confrontation and always reporting crime.
If you are looking for peace and serenity this summer, Studland naturist beach is a great choice because it allows time for a fantastic escape from all the touristy beaches that are likely to be terribly busy again during the summer months. It has beautiful views of the South coast, making it suitable for a socially distanced trip this summer.
There are no toilet facilities at Studland naturist beach itself, so it is important to be aware of this and plan your visit appropriately.
During the summer, there is a self-catering van parked at the naturist beach which sells hot and cold refreshments and ice-cream. There is also a café at Knoll beach next to the car park. Why not treat yourself? You are on holiday after all!
