Slapton Sands, Devon

Category: Tags: ,

Although Slapton Sands in Devon is not officially recognised as a nudist beach, naturists have been enjoying this beautiful part of the coast with its crystal clear waters and ample space since the 1930s. It’s actually one of the most famous naturist beaches around. Because of a landslip, access to the original nude section became near impossible. So, most naturists now use the closer, north section of the beach. Slapton Sands is a very popular beach, but thanks to its 3-mile stretch it never feels crowded so you can sprawl out on your beach towel without worrying about other people getting too close.

Slapton in Devon has a very small car park nearby.  There is a sign as you enter the beach stating that naturists use it beyond the sign. The beach is tiny stones and the water gets deep quick.  But still a great location.” Naturist Corner Member

Though not sand the shingle is smooth and comfortable to lay on but walking long distances on it can be hard work. Be aware that, depending on the tide level, the beach can shelve quite steeply into the sea. The sea is a crystal clear blue (on a sunny day) but always cold due to the wide open expanse of the beach.

Unofficial, though has been used by naturists for many years and in the past has been recognised by the local council as a nudist beach.

Sea is good but very cold (even in summer). Water very steep off the beach with strong currents.  Though very popular, and with all ages, the size of the beach means it is never crowded.

The naturist part has grown over the years. A very accessible beach about 3/4 mile long and of golden fine shingle (or tiny pebbles). Backed by picturesque cliffs and fauna ablaze with colour in the spring. The beach has beautiful views up and down the coast.

The nearest post code for the car park is: TQ6 0RR

Turn left out of the car park along the beach (there is a path at the back of the beach which is easier to walk on) and the first naturists start appearing a short way along, about 2 – 3 mins walk, then the naturist beach extends for about 3/4 mile (1km) to the end. It is a rural beach and whilst there are toilets at the car park, there are no refreshments within walking distance, so take food and drink.

Slapton Sands is an unofficial but well-established nude beach, said to have been frequented by nude bathers since the 1930’s. Nudity occurs on the northeast end of the beach. Facing the sea from the parking lot, go left on the path that runs along the inland edge of the beach. When the path peters out after about 1/3 mile, you’ll be in the nude area, which is backed by scenic cliffs and a dense growth of trees. There are toilets at the parking lot, but otherwise the beach has no amenities. Slapton Sands is popular, and on nice beach days the 100-space parking lot fills up well before noon, even on weekdays. There is no convenient alternative parking. The next lot is about a mile to the southwest, opposite the short spur road to Slapton village.
